{"id":42206,"date":"2022-01-13T09:04:00","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T09:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grifal.it\/budget-sustainability-2020\/"},"modified":"2025-01-27T09:25:25","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T09:25:25","slug":"budget-sustainability-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grifal.it\/en\/budget-sustainability-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Grifal Group presents sustainability report 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">20 patents, 9 certifications, two 100% environmentally sustainable production lines (<a href=\"\/?page_id=21466\">\n  <u>cArt\u00f9<\/u>\n  <sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\n<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cushionpaper.com\/\"><u>cushionPaper&#x2122;<\/u><\/a>), 10% of production value invested in R&amp;D and machinery<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grifal Group ended the year 2020 with a +14% <strong>growth in demand<\/strong> in the last quarter, a clear sign that the post-pandemic period has significantly increased <strong>customers&#8217; awareness of<\/strong> <strong>sustainable choices<\/strong>, recognizing the Group as an excellent interlocutor capable of meeting this type of demand.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the most significant insights emerging from the <a href=\"\/?page_id=7622\"><strong><u>new Sustainability<\/u><\/strong><\/a> Report <a href=\"\/?page_id=7622\">,<\/a> a report recognized for its original design and prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards. Other important indicators include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20 international patents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>9 environmental certifications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>two production lines of <a href=\"https:\/\/cushionpaper.com\/\"><u>cushionPaper&#x2122;<\/u><\/a> and <a href=\"\/?page_id=21466\">\n  <u>cArt\u00f9<\/u>\n  <sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\n<\/a> 100% environmentally sustainable, highly efficient in terms of speed and reduced energy consumption<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than 10% of the value of production invested in research, development and machinery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increasing the paper-to-polyethylene ratio within packaging solutions-a goal achieved at 75 percent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The design of new technologies with lower environmental impact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grifal.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/grifal_in_breve_bilancio_di_sostenibilita_2020-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32917\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Life Cycle Assessment<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the  <a href=\"\/?page_id=20061\"><u>life cycle assessment (LCA) study<\/u><\/a>  On the product life cycle,  <strong>cArt\u00f9\u00ae<\/strong>, created and patented in 2016, is a  <strong>Up to 80% more environmentally friendly solution than traditional packaging<\/strong>, while the use of a single box of cushionPaper&#x2122; avoids the emission of 20.52 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere, equal to the carbon dioxide absorbed by 60 trees. In 2020, as many as <strong>179 projects<\/strong> were made of <sup>cArt\u00f9\u00ae<\/sup> and paper-based material.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also from the LCA analysis, it was also found that the environmental impact of Grifal Group&#8217;s role on the entire supply chain of <sup>cArt\u00f9\u00ae<\/sup> affects only 8 percent, which includes raw material transportation, production, and scrap transportation. The remaining 85 percent relate to the raw material production and procurement phase and 7 percent to the distribution, utilization and disposal phase.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raw Materials and the Circular Economy<\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020, Grifal Group&#8217;s purchase of paper increased by +204% while cardboard (-15%) and polyethylene (-9%) decreased.<br\/>100 percent of the paper purchased to make packaging is guaranteed FSC\u00ae and PEFC&#x2122;, internationally recognized certifications for all forest-based products that ensure the raw material comes from forests managed exclusively in a sustainable and responsible manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, 90% of the Group&#8217;s production waste is recyclable, while polyethylene waste is returned to the manufacturer to be <a href=\"\/?p=18702\"><u>put back into the production cycle<\/u><\/a>. On the water-saving front, there was a significant -30% reduction in water consumption in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grifal.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/tutela_ambiente_bilancio_di_sostenibilita_2020-1024x972.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32919\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In fact, in partnership with other packaging companies, we want to create an international network of production sites with the goal of locating close to outlet
