Grifal adheres to the standard for applying phytosanitary measures on wood packaging: as a FITOK Authorized Dealer, we use only contamination-free wood and pallets. This is the specification of successful phytosanitary treatment for fumigation of wooden pallets, according to ISPM-15 (Heat Treatment).
It is not a mandatory measure, but it is indicative of the company’s attention to environmental protection issues. Learn more about Green Packaging issues:

The standard wood fumigation process eliminates any fungi, molds, viruses or bacteria that may disperse and harm people and the environment during the handling and transportation of goods.
The FITOK mark, consisting of the IPPC/FAO ear tag and authorization code, was issued to Grifal by Conlegno – the Italian consortium that protects “Forest heritage and biodiversity by promoting the use of wood, from raw material to packaging to structural wood” and which is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forestry.
In Support of Environmental Sustainability
The focus on using FITOK-certified wood pallets adds to Grifal’s initiatives to support Environmental Sustainability, including, for example, FSC and PEFC Certifications of paper-based raw materials.
Mitigating any economic, environmental and forestry impact risks of a production and/or commercial activity results in numerous benefits:
- Protection of vegetation and crops from endemic or non-endemic pests;
- Exclusion of packaging materials from challenge or penalty;
- Minimizing the possibility of customs detentions;
- Greater security and complete traceability of supply chain actors;
- Increased perception of product quality;
- for sales and distribution activities, compliance with standards that are increasingly popular and required by partner companies and customers.
