With the expansion of the Cologno al Serio production site, for more than 6,000 square meters of new production areas, Grifal has taken a significant step toward reducing its environmental footprint. A commitment that has reached a crucial milestone with the full operation of the new 148 Kwh photovoltaic system.
The introduction of photovoltaic panels represents a major ecological turning point for the company, as it will allow a significant decrease in energy consumption and, consequently, CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by making the production of cArtù® even more environmentally sustainable.
Since its inception, the production of cArtù® has been distinguished by its remarkable environmental performance:
- Requires up to 70% less raw material than traditional corrugated cardboard
- 100% of the paper used to produce cArtù® is PEFC™ or FSC® certified
- Up to -80% CO2 emissions to the air compared to packaging made from plastics or traditional corrugated cardboard
- 100% recyclable and disposable in separate paper collection
- Cuts end-of-life material disposal volumes by 90 percent
- production requires no steam or drying floors (thus 0% water consumption)
To achieve even lighter energy requirements, Grifal has kicked off several initiatives in the past months. The gradual replacement of lighting systems with high-efficiency LED devices is just one of the many actions implemented. In addition, the adoption of an innovative digital consumption monitoring system for the Cologno al Serio and Rivolta d’Adda production sites will enable real-time detection of any anomalies on entire lines or individual machines, facilitating the implementation of maintenance policies . This strategy will prove increasingly significant over time, further contributing to the reduction of overall energy consumption.
